Benjamin Marauder Pellet Air Rifle Review

Overview

Having hunting buddies who share my love for pellet air rifles means I get to try out a wide variety of pellet rifles. One of the pellet air rifles that I have tested and been impressed with is one of my buddy’s Benjamin Marauder pellet air rifle.

A 10-shot repeater rifle, this Benjamin rifle is not the most powerful 177 air rifle I have used, but it gets the job done.

Unlike some of the other rifles I have used, this air rifle is a Pre-charged pneumatic or PCP air rifle, meaning that it requires an air pump. Given that I rarely use PCP rifles, I was pleased with the rifle’s air pressure gauge that indicates when it is time for a refill.

I have no complaints with the 2 stage metal adjustable trigger of the rifle. Also, the rifle’s choked barrel proved to be a great feature for improving the rifle’s accuracy. The gun is fitted with a 215cc air reservoir, which I found to be easy to fill using the quick-disconnect fitting.

Thumbs Up

  • The rifle can be adjusted to fire at different velocities
  • The rifle’s synthetic stock is rugged and ideal for all weather use
  • Measures 43 inches in length making it suitable for different shooters
  • The rifle is amazingly quiet

Thumbs Down

  • Does not come with either iron sights or a scope

Specs

  • Weighs 8.5 pounds
  • Synthetic stock
  • 3000 PSI fill pressure
  • Adjustable muzzle velocity
  • Metal trigger

Verdict

This PCP rifle from Benjamin is an all-around and versatile rifle fit for hunting pests. Given that the gun’s velocity is adjustable, it is suitable for both professional and beginner shooters.

However, some pros enjoy the thrill of firing a powerful air rifle.

So if you are a pro looking for the best airgun for hunting, this might not be the right one for you. This is an air rifle I recommend to beginners who want to learn how to use an air rifle.

Evanix Tactical Sniper Carbine Air Rifle Review

No products found.

Overview

At first glance, it is easy to mistake the Evanix Tactical Sniper Carbine air rifle with one of those modified guns used by Matt Damon in the 2013 Sci-Fi flick Elysium. So does this gun perform as great as it looks?

Well, its price tag seems to suggest that it does.

Weighing 8.2 pounds, this rifle is a tad heavier than other guns and its rather hefty nose does not make things any lighter.

But do not let this be a deal breaker, as this Tactical sniper rifle has a smooth cocking lever. Operating this level is smooth and effortless. The positioning of the pressure gauge is another thing that I love about the Evanix Tactical. When you buy this rifle, you get two magazines each with seven pellets.

I dare say this rifle is the best PCP rifle for the money. Therefore, it is designed for the high-end market. In essence, it is a great rifle for the serious and professional shooter.

Factors To Consider Whens Buying The Best Air Rifles or Best Pellet Guns

After reading my comprehensive pellet gun reviews, it is time to help you get an air rifle or pellet gun. There is an almost endless selection of air rifles available for your selection. So what should you consider when buying your first, second or even third air rifle? Below are some of the factors I consider when I go air rifle shopping.

The type

There are three main air rifle categories available in the market, pre-charged pneumatic, CO2 powered, spring loaded and gas ram. While spring loaded rifles are harder to load, they are cheap and readily available. They are also cheaper and easier to maintain compared to pre-charged pneumatic and CO2 powered air rifles. Pre-charged pneumatic rifles, on the other hand, are powered by compressed air. Thus, you will have to refill your rifle after some time. Pre-charged also does not have a recoil and are silent than spring-loaded. So it will depend largely on your preference.

The caliber

Since air rifle’s use pellets, it is important that you choose the appropriate caliber. The most popular air rifle pellets are .22 and .177 caliber pellets. Basically, speaking .177 pellets are lighter and therefore faster and cheaper. On the other hand, .22 pellets are heavier and pack a heavier punch. So if it is the power you are after then, the .22 pellet will be the right one. Contrastingly, if you want velocity, then the .177 caliber rifle will be your best option.

Gun carriage

The transport of your rifle will be of great importance. In most cities, you will be required to carry your air rifle inside a secure bag. So the bag that comes with your rifle needs to be safe and thick enough to prevent damage to the air rifle.

Other factors that you need to consider are;

  • The cost is a major factor. When you are a beginner, I advise looking at rifles in the under 200 or 100 price categories.
  • Some air rifles come with a scope mounted. A scope can be a great addition, so this is something you need to consider
  • The mounting rail of the gun is also another important factor to consider.
