- Hard Rifle Cases

Best Soft Rifle Case Reviews
The best soft rifle case will be the best option for carrying your firearm to the gun range or anywhere else. Thanks to the extra storage you get with such a rifle case. You can store your spare magazines, cleaning supplies, or other shooting gear such as rifle scopes.
Here is our pick of the best soft rifle case.
Savior Equipment Urban Warfare Tactical Double Carbine Long Rifle Bag Gun Case
Choosing the best double rifle case wasn’t easy, but ultimately we had to settle on this Savoir Equipment long rifle bag gun case. It comes in five length options, 36 inches, 42 inches, 46 inches, 51 inches, and 55 inches.
I opted for the 46-inch version that is capable of holding longer rifles and shotgun. What I love about it is the amount of storage space it offers. I like carrying most of my accessories and gear in one place.
It comes with double padded storage compartments that can hold two rifles. There is also space for two pistols and magazines. I am able to carry about 600 rounds of ammo with this case and even scopes for my Winchester 308 rifle.
I do love the shoulder straps that the case comes with. They make it easy to carry the case as a backpack, which I love. Better yet, these shoulder straps are removable so you can do away with them if you don’t need them.
- Is spacious enough to accommodate two rifles, two pistols, and magazines
- Comes with shoulder straps that are removable for easy carrying
- It also has two sets of handle making it possible to carry it horizontally
- Is fitted with lockable zippers to make it difficult for unwanted intruders to gain access to your firearms
- Features heavy-duty double stitching for durability
- The dual shoulder straps are a bit too thin for my liking
- The shoulder straps are closely placed and maybe a bit uncomfortable for people with broad chests
When you want to carry two or more guns to the range, this is the rifle case for you. It offers a lot of space, and the external magazine pockets can easily hold 5 magpaul 5.56 magazines. And the only flaws I saw with this case was the shoulder straps. Which aren’t that big of a deal to me.
Savior Equipment American Classic Tactical Double Long Rifle Pistol Gun Bag Firearm Transportation Case
Savior Equipment has an impressive selection of rifle cases, and another one of my favorites from the company is the American Classic Tactical. As with the previous model, this has what it takes to be crowned the best double rifle case.
You get plenty of space from this tactical double long rifle transportation case. I especially loved the fact that it has padded edges. These prevent unwanted movement of your firearms during transportation.
Inside you can store up to 2 long rifles and 2 pistols. There are also external compartments for storing additional accessories. Basically, you can carry quite a lot with this rifle case. And just like the other model you can either carry it on your shoulders or horizontally.
Personally, I prefer carrying it on my shoulders as a backpack. However, there are times when carrying it horizontally is better. This is when the hook and loop handle comes in handy.
- The zippers are lockable, which improves the security of the case
- The adjustable quick-detach buckle system makes it easy to open without compromising on security
- Has three large exterior pockets where you can store magazines and other accessories
- Is constructed from 600 PVC nylon which is a heavy-duty material
- Comes with a lifetime warranty
- The shoulder straps are a bit too thin
- Closely spaced shoulder straps can be uncomfortable
As with the other Savior Equipment model, this one has a lot to offer. Both are my top picks for the ar 15 rifle case. Ar 15 style guns aren’t the only ones you can carry inside this cases. Thanks to the sheer amount of storage space you get, you can carry longer rifles as well.
VISM by NcSTAR Double Carbine Case
NcSTAR is another company whose double rifle cases I am fond of. In particular, the VISM by NcSTAR Double Carbine Case. Though it costs a little less than the Savior Equipment model, it is a rifle case I would recommend, and here is why.
The version I went for can accommodate two rifles of up to 35 inches in overall length. Overall it measures 42 inches long. There are 4 hook and loop straps that hold each of your two carbine rifles securely in place.
It comes with two main compartments with the primary compartment being where you store the two rifles. The second compartment offers space for two pistols and additional accessories. And if you like, you can store up to three pistols in the second compartment.
You get three large pockets on the outside with the middle one being the largest. The other two on either side come with a webbing divider. Meaning you can store more things.
I was a bit disappointed with the lack of shoulder straps on this one. But I will say that the hand handle it comes with is hefty duty. Something else I loved about this case was the number of pockets it comes with.
There are plenty of pockets inside this case for storing virtually anything from maps, magazines, handguns, to safety equipment.
- All zippers have pull cords for easy access
- Top and bottom compression straps makes the case look leaner than it really is
- The three exterior pockets are large enough for storing several magazines
- Can accommodate two long rifles and three pistols
- A thick padded divider keeps the two rifles securely fastened
- Does not come with shoulder straps and can only be carried horizontally
- Other than the primary compartment the case features single stitching
Honestly, with this case, you will be tempted to buy more guns because of the amount of storage space you get. Most of the pockets, in this case, have pockets. So if you want to spend $50 on a case, you can use to carry almost all your stuff to the range, this is it.
Best Hard Rifle Case Reviews
When you want to protect your firearm from the elements, a soft rifle case may not be the best option. But a hard rifle case may be just what the doctor ordered. Made from hard plastic or aluminum, the hard exterior of these cases offer maximum protection from the elements.
Here are the two rifle cases that I believe best deserve the title of the best hard rifle case
Pelican 1750 Rifle Case With Foam (OD Green)
A quick search of the Pelican 1750 rifle case and it is clear it is very popular. Which got me curious as to why it’s such a popular model. Almost every review I read online sang its praises.
The first thing I noticed about this rifle case is that it is suited for long rifles. Inside it measures 50.5 inches long, 13.5 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep. Enough to accommodate a long rifle such as the new Ruger American rifle.
While it is designed for a single long gun, it has plenty of room left over. And if you are feeling a bit adventurous, you can try and fit a second in there, maybe an ar 15. Built from polycarbonate material, it is tough as nails.
The polycarbonate exterior gives it excellent impact strength. Also, it is completely waterproof. When it gets dirty, just hose it down. Now, this is quite a bulky case and can weigh slightly less than 50 pounds when fully packed.
This might have been a problem were it not for the inclusion of heavy-duty wheels on one end. Due to its weight, I prefer wheeling it around as opposed to carrying it, which can be a chore.
- It is completely waterproof and thus weatherproof
- Can accommodate long guns of up to 48 inches in length
- Is constructed from a high-ultra-impact polycarbonate for maximum impact protection
- Comes with heavy-duty wheels that make it easy to transport
- Four latches spaced across the lid make it easy to open
- Weighing about 26 pounds when empty it is quite heavy
- The latches are easy to snag and open
For shorter ar 15 rifles you might want to buy the 1700 model. This one is more suited for longer rifles. It is available at a relatively affordable price tag. And it is an excellent investment when you consider all its features.
Plano All Weather Tactical Gun Case
In my opinion, Plano makes some of the best tactical rifle cases on the market. And one of their best sellers is the Plano all-weather tactical gun case. This is an excellent option for carrying your tactical rifle.
Firstly it is completely waterproof, your weapon is kept inside a watertight foam padded enclosure complete with a pressure release valve. But what makes it the best tactical gun case is its padding inserts.
With these inserts, you can carry a rifle with multiple accessories such as the ar 15. Also, you can carry bulkier rifles. The inserts give you the freed to carry different types of rifles inside the case with ease.
The padding that comes inside this case is of excellent quality. It keeps your firearms secure inside at all times. And well protected from movement.
- Features spring-loaded locks that keep it secure
- Is completely waterproof for use in extreme weather conditions
- Comes with a lifetime warranty included
- Features customizable foam padding inserts for fitting any kind of rifle
- Is suited for air travel
- Is a bit narrow than other similar cases
- Cannot fit more than two tactical rifles
Air travel can be the worst, especially if you are carrying your gun. All the tossing of your luggage can lead to your guns getting damaged. With this Plano gun safe, you do not have to worry thanks to its excellent foam padding.
Vault by Pelican - Rifle Case with Foam
Hard cases for ar 15 are built for hard use hence their names. And the Vault by Pelican rifle case is the best hardshell rifle case at its price point. Characterized by a tough exterior constructed from a high-impact-resistant polycarbonate, this is the real deal.
Slightly cheaper than the 1750, there is a lot I love about this case. For starters, it comes fitted with six-button latches. These latches offer security from unwanted intruders while making it easy for you to access your firearm.
Inside you get five layers of protective foam. The foam, in this case, is not the flimsy plucked foam you get with some other hard cases. This foam is solid and quite nicer than that of other cheaper models.
Measuring 44 inches in length, it is also quite long and can accommodate most long rifles. You can even fit an air rifle complete with a scope and all its accessories.
- Is lightweight enough for easy carrying
- Comes fitted with a strong handle
- Has a roomy interior and can accommodate most rifle lengths
- The latches offer security while making access easy
- Is offered at a relatively affordable price
- The case doesn’t come with wheels
- You have to cut the foam to fit your rifle instead of plucking it as with other Pelican models
This case seems to be a more affordable version of Pelicans foam rifle cases. It differs slightly from some of the company’s other hard case offerings. However, it still maintains the quality of all its counterparts.
Plano Mil-Spec Field Locker Tactical Long Gun Case with Wheels
One of the largest rifle cases out there is the Mil-spec Field Locker tactical long gun case. Designed to fit up to two long rifles, it has interior dimensions of 54 inches long and 15 inches wide. Don’t expect it to be a lightweight rifle case though.
The inside of the case is what excited me the most. You get a high density cut to fit foam padding. With this foam padding, you can customize how you want to carry your firearms. More importantly, your guns are kept secure.
There is a watertight seal running the length of the lid. This seal is in the form of a heavy-duty gasket with 4 extra-large and wide latches. This gasket keeps moisture and other unwanted elements from ever reaching your firearms.
As mentioned before this is not a lightweight case. In fact, it is quite bulky. Fortunately for us, Plano included wheels that make it easy to transport. There is also a molded and contoured hand handle that feels comfortable.
- Has the largest internal dimensions of any Plano case meaning more space
- The lid has a dri-lock gasket water seal that keeps the moisture out
- Is fitted with wheels for easy transportation
- The high density cut to fit foam gives you customization options for your rifles
- Has extra wide latches for smooth opening and closing of the case
- It’s quite heavy
- It is too big to be acceptable in some airlines
A case that can accommodate two long rifles has to be pretty special. And that is exactly what this Plano model is. It comes with all the features you would need from a tactical rifle case. And despite its size and weight, it is an excellent option, whose size and weight are justifiable.
How To Buy Rifle Case Without Breaking The Bank
When shopping for the best rifle case for the money, there are a number of factors to consider. The main factors to consider are.
Durability and toughness
The best rifle case has to be tough and durable. However, the measure of durability and toughness varies depending on your needs. If you want a case to carry your hunting rifle, it needs to be tough enough to withstand the elements.
The same toughness will not be necessary for a case for going to the gun range. A soft rifle case will be an ideal choice for the gun range while a hard case for hunting.
Guns vary in length, and rifle cases are built on this principle. Some rifle cases are designed for long rifles while others are built for shorter rifles. Get a rifle case that can easily accommodate your rifle.
For a long rifle, a 46-inch long case will be an ideal option. Also, it is important to know how many guns a case can accommodate. Some can accommodate two and a handgun while others can only accommodate one gun.
How easy is it to transport your rifle in a rifle case. This is especially if you are traveling by air or ship. For long-distance travel, you need a portable case. If it is a heavy case, it helps to have wheels that you can use to pull it behind you.
Let’s be honest; everyone has their own idea of how much a decent rifle case should cost. Which means we all look at cost when shopping for a rifle case. It is always wise to stick to your budget, but at the same time, settle on a case that can meet your needs.
Whichever type of gun you own, you can never ignore the importance of a good quality rifle case. To purchase on, you must have a purpose in mind. Maybe for carrying your rifle to the gun range or carrying it to your favorite hunting ground.
How and what you intend to use your rifle case will influence the type of case you should get. Some are more suited to the great outdoors than others. Also, the number of rifles and accessories you want to carry on a regular basis.
Some can only accommodate on rifle while others can accommodate two and several handguns, as well as extra magazines. In essence, the best rifle case is the one that best meets your needs.
